I have been an advocate for over twenty years in both my professional career and through volunteer work in the realm of special education. I received my Masters Degree in Social Work (MSW) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2002, with specific experience in mental health and educational advocacy for students with special needs. As a parent of two sons who have had special educational needs, I believe that every student has unique strengths that can be integrated into their Individualized Education Program (IEP). In addition to my professional education, training, and experience in Mental Health Care and Developmental Delays, I am a life-long learner. I have completed the Special Education Law and Advocacy Series from the University of San Diego School of Law. Currently, I am a student in the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates' (COPAA) Special Education Advocate Training Credential (SEAT) 2 coursework, with anticipated completion in May of 2025.

I have worked in multiple roles including: Educational Advocate, Therapist, Clinical Case Manager, Multi-Discipline Team Facilitator, Therapeutic Foster Home Clinical Supervisor, and Community Advocate. Through my experience in Special Education, I have learned to collaboratively work with multi-disciplinary teams to support students with Special Needs. I believe that all students do well when they can, especially when team members are invested in the best outcome for the student, particularly during the IEP process. When a student or a team faces a roadblock, it indicates that we need to find the right tools to solve the challenges. My goal is to help move obstacles so that students can SOAR!
